Resolved Question: Can heavy trucks run on 100% biodiesel?

I know that heavy trucks only like 20-50% bio-blends. Is there any tuning you could do to have a bus or something run 100%bio? Maybe an HHO hookup? Or what about adding kerosene? Thankyou for your answers. Ok, I look some people saying any engine can run 100% bio as long as blah blah, that stuff I have read before. But give me an example of a semi/hauler,bus, crane running 100%. I've never seen it done. Everyone says they run roughly. Why? and how could I tune it to work properly?

Resolved Question: Is making high-quality "Biodiesel" from Expired and/or Recycled Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) a potentially .....?

... viable business proposition for developing nations? Assuming you: 1- can receive the Expired or WVO at no or very low cost (i.e. transportation / recycle collection expenses) 2- have access to an affordable labor force 3- mean to produce it on a reasonably big scale to sustain a relatively big size business and NOT just for personal use 4- mean to produce a high-quality Biodiesel and wish to sell the glycerin byproduct to the industry as well 5- can market the Biodiesel directly to the target customers (e.g. trucks, buses, heating market, etc.) Would the upfront cost of a reasonably big Conversion / Reactor Facility plus the other ongoing costs of production / operation / distribution (fix and variable) make this a potentially viable business opportunity for "the developing country markets"? And do you know of similar type operations (on big scale) anywhere in the world that you can direct my attention to? Would greatly appreciate serious comments.

Resolved Question: Would you dare travel around the world in a recycled scrap yard bus powered only by chip fat ?

Do you use what you use to its maximum potential? London, Oct 18 (ANI): Environmental campaigner Andy Pag who is trying to travel around the world in a recycled scrap yard bus powered only by chip fat has reached Asia. The 34-year-old adventurer, from London, crossed from the European to the Asian side of the Istanbul Strait on Friday, reports The Daily Star. Pag left London on September 19, and since then he has covered more than 3,000 miles through France, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, the Balkans and Greece to reach Turkey in the bus. In that time he has collected more than 500 litres of chip fat and biodiesel made from used cooking oil to put in his tank. He said: "Crossing the Bosphorus is a real milestone. I'm actually quite relieved to have made it this far, but it's only going to receive tougher to find used cooking oil to fuel the bus from here on." "It's noisy, uncomfortable, slow, and it smells like a bus driver's armpit, but when you are using rubbish you can't expect too much," he added. Ahead, he will have to compete either with the insecurity in Pakistan or the icy temperatures of the Kazakhstani winter, which risks solidifying the fuel into a greasy mess. http://in.news.yahoo.com/139/20091018/882/twl-chip-fat-powered-scrap-bus-on-around.html

Resolved Question: good idea for a bus advertisement?

doing an ad campaign for school to receive people to "go green" and use the bus system to help. The key point is that the buses not only use biodiesel but to encourage people to receive on the bus instead of driving, there will be ipod hookups for each person, free wifi, and there will be a system of geting discount bus fares by turning in recyclables etc. (MIND YOU, this is a FAKE bus system, it does NOT exist yet, but we had to receive creative and MAKE UP something). I'm really struggling on the advertisements for the bus, not ones ON a bus. We have to a do 2 ads that will go in a magazine to promote going green and riding the bus. (this is for an advance graphic design 1 class). we also have to do a brochure, any ideas on the magazine ads??

Resolved Question: Trying to switch from diesel to biodiesel in school buses?

I want to help my school district and propose a plan to change the use of diesel fuel into B20. I know that many school districts in America have done so. I'm also doing a Science Fair Research Project to figure out which nice of biodiesel is the most efficient, and I want to take these results and propose a plan for my school district. I know where I can receive the fuel, and the only problem is that I'm trying to figure out what are some things that I have to be concerned with when creating the plan?

Resolved Question: I want to buy a gasoline powered van, take out the engine and replace it with a diesel engine. Can I? Advice?

I want to buy an old vw bus from the 60s or so and tour the country. I want to switch the engine to a diesel that way i could convert it to run on biodiesel. I would convert it straight from gasoline to biodiesel, but this is not possible. Biodiesel costs a lot less and is good for the environment. Does anybody have any advice?

Resolved Question: Can a conventional engine be converted to run on biodiesel fuel?

Resolved Question: Can anyone help me make a summary from the benefits of Biofuel?

Benefits of Biodiesel Biodiesel is cleaner than petroleum diesel, results in far lower greenhouse gas emissions, is biodegradable, and offers the potential to reduce our dependence on imported oil. Indeed, given such a significant collection of advantages, it is remarkable that this fuel has received so little attention over the years -- by the environmental community, by energy policy experts concerned about oil dependence on the Middle East, and by the green building community. Reduced pollution emissions Reduced odor Along with the measurable reductions in pollutant emissions, burning biodiesel also reduces the offensive odor associated with diesel or heating oil combustion. Sulfur is responsible for much of the odor problems with diesel, so with no sulfur, biodiesel has a much more pleasant odor. With 100% biodiesel, the emissions have more of a cooking odor than what we associate with diesel vehicles or heating oil. Positive energy balance A very important question with any alternative fuel is how much energy it takes to produce and transport it With virgin biodiesel made from soybeans, the energy balance is far better. A 1998 report sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and USDA with technical contributions from the life-cycle assessment (LCA) firm Ecobalance, Inc., ”An Overview of Biodiesel and Petroleum Diesel Life Cycles,” examined cradle-to-grave impacts of these two fuels for powering urban buses. This study found that for every unit of fossil-fuel energy consumed in biodiesel production, 3.2 units of biodiesel are produced. On a percentage basis, the net energy gain with biodiesel is 220%. Petroleum fuels have a negative energy balance (a net energy loss) because it takes energy to extract, process, and transport that fuel. Reduced greenhouse gas emissions Biodegradability and solid waste Biodiesel is fully biodegradable, so spills are much less of a problem than with petroleum diesel. A 1993 Austrian study found that 98% of biodiesel biodegrades in three weeks. This benefit has made biodiesel a particularly attractive fuel in significant natural areas (it is being used in several national parks and in marine applications). The DOE/USDA life-cycle study compared hazardous and nonhazardous waste generation of petroleum diesel and biodiesel over their respective life cycles. B100 biodiesel results in 96% less hazardous waste than petroleum diesel -- 0.018 vs. 0.41 g/bhp-hr (0.024 vs. 0.55 g/kWh). Seventy percent of the hazardous waste from the biodiesel life cycle comes from soybean agriculture, but this is due primarily to petroleum diesel and gasoline used in farming operations. Biodiesel does cause more nonhazardous waste than petroleum diesel, however -- most of which results from the soybean crushing stage of the life cycle. Increased engine or burner life Biodiesel has better lubricating properties than petroleum diesel. As a result, it may increase engine life and reduce wear and tear on burners in oil-fired boilers and furnaces. Good data on these benefits is not likely to be available for several years, however, because of the very long operating life of even conventional diesel engines and oil burners. Reduced foreign oil dependence While not strictly an environmental benefit, the use of domestically produced biofuel can reduce U.S. reliance on imported oil. The Bush Administration has shown considerable interest in biofuels in an effort to attain greater energy self-sufficiency, though most research funding and financial incentives to date have been for corn-derived ethanol -- a biofuel with a rather needy energy balance. *The summary should be from the statements over. Also, please include why it's BETTER than FOSSIL FUEL. Thanks. :P Doesn't have to be so long,HAHA.

Resolved Question: What engine modifications would be needed to run pure biodiesel in American school buses? Cost? Thanks!?

If 100% is very difficult, how about 20% or 50%? Economic opportunity for a backyard refiner? Can it really be made from used cooking oil for less than 1$ a gallon?

Resolved Question: What kind of mileage can I expect from a used diesel school bus?

I want to covnert an old diesel school bus into an rv. I want to run the RV on biodiesel. My guess is it will end up being a tardy 80's to early 90's bus. I am going to spend a year traveling the country and am trying to figure out how much I need to set aside for gas. If anyone knows what range of MPG I can expect it would go a long way to helping me make more accurate calculations. Especially info from anyone with experience in school bus conversions would be greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: Are Democrats Self Loathing Self-Flagellating Masochists?

They always assume EVERYTHING is our fault! They project their self-hatred onto America, saying we must've bombed ourselves on 9-11. They assume that every real threat to national security is "scaremongering", yet they jump aboard the secular armageddon of global warming which doesn't even have full credibility in the scientific world. Why? Because they adore to admit that global warming is their possess fault (self-flagellating) and they deserve punishment (must pay carbon credits and buy carbon insurance). They always assume we deserve punishment around the world, something the world is more than glad to dole out. They always think we must timidly approach enemies to "make nice" as if that has ever worked (not). Confidence scares them! And the FAKE ALTRUISM they exhibit is disgusting! Sheryl Crow rides around in a "biodiesel bus" a huge luxury coach which spews out JUST as much CO2 as a regular bus, lecturing college students on global warming when she has NO science degree. There is no difference between Democrats and religion. They both believe in Armageddon, and that we will pay for our sins, and they both use SHAME to control their masses. PS I have never listened or watched FOX this is my possess viewpoint from having listened to Democrats. They hate themselves, and since they are Americans they hate America as well. They would be too ashamed to have any pride. To MEMO Please provide ONE SINGLE REFERENCE in a valid scientific journal which equates how much reduction in CO2 it will take to achieve thermal cooling of the Earth. Waiting. And when you're done, explain how the earth warmed after the last six known ice ages, and why ice core samples show a reverse CO2/warming correlation, and why Mars sith 95% consisten CO2 atmosphere is warming the same as earth, and why the Royal Acad. Sci just published an article about cosmic rays and cloud seeding leading to earth's thermal effects (which was not taken into account prior) and why there IS NOT CONSENSUS about CO2 causing globalw arming---it may be the result of it, and why solar fluctuations were not factored in (when ancient people even knew this and counted sunspots to know how the weather would change). You give one reference about CO2 reduction and global cooling. Waiting. There are none.
